Joao Felix marked his official Atletico Madrid debut by humiliating three Getafe defenders en route to winning a penalty in the victory at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The Portugal wonderkid, who has inherited the coveted No.7 for Los Rojiblancos following the departure of Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona, looked completely at home in Spanish football when he collected the ball in his own half and breezed past a trio of opposition players like they weren’t even there.
He displayed sublime skill, pace and balance to remain on his feet and advance all the way into the box, where the final defender could not resist the urge to foul him for a penalty after being completely and utterly embarrassed.
Unfortunately for Atletico Alvaro Morata failed to add to his first half header by missing the spot-kick but fans will be hoping for a whole lot more of this from their new star.
The 19-year old sensation limped off after appearing to suffer a leg injury in the second half and Diego Simeone will be praying it’s not serious.
Still, his debut was thoroughly impressive and his statistics only further indicate what a generational talent Atleti have on their books.
Given Atleti have splashed out a club-record £113 million on him, and the fact he’s only really played one full season as a professional for Benfica, there’s huge pressure on the young shoulders of Felix.
But he proved tonight that he’s more than ready to be the team’s main man and we expect him to continue to do bits over the course of his seven-year contract in the Spanish capital.
Move over, Griezmann.
